Stigma and silence around mental health challenges and experiences in the mental health care system have left our modern system lagging far behind the rest of healthcare. Our mental health system is similar to what restaurants would be like if people were ashamed to talk about going to restaurants–they would be really terrible. It’s time for open, honest, difficult conversations about how we want to treat our fellow humans.
